POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Special Education Coordinator provides leadership, supervision, and coordination of special education services across multiple grade levels at TIMES² Academy. This position ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, oversees the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), supports and evaluates special education staff on behalf of the Chief Academic Officer, and collaborates with general education teachers, families, and community partners to promote student success. Additionally, the Coordinator will provide direct student services and coverage during the absence of special education teachers to ensure continuity of instruction and compliance with service hours.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership & Coordination

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for special education and related services across all grade levels.
  • Act as LEA representative in all IEP meetings.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and compliance of IEPs in accordance with IDEA and state regulations.
  • Chair and case manage team meetings, including initials, annual reviews, manifestation determinations, and other required meetings.
  • Monitor student progress and collaborate with teachers and service providers to ensure IEP goals are met.
  • Coordinate efforts with outside providers and community agencies to support student programming.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of all state and federal reports, including progress reports, compliance audits, and monitoring documentation.
  • Participate in the development and oversight of Extended School Year (ESY) programming.

Instructional Support & Collaboration

  • Support, coach, and evaluate special education teachers and related service providers.
  • Provide direct instructional or service coverage during the absence of special education teachers to maintain compliance with IEP service hours.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure appropriate accommodations, modifications, and instructional strategies for students with disabilities.
  • Consult with teachers regarding classroom management, behavior intervention plans, and differentiated instruction.
  • Facilitate professional development to improve instructional practices, compliance, and understanding of special education procedures.

Compliance, Case Management & Medicaid

  • Maintain accurate student data and documentation within the school’s student information and IEP management systems.
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal laws regarding special education and Section 504, including procedural safeguards and timelines.
  • Lead and support the Medicaid billing and reimbursement process in collaboration with Times² Academy’s third-party vendor, Relay, ensuring accurate documentation, staff compliance, and timely submission of claims.
  • Provide training and ongoing support to staff on Medicaid service documentation and billing requirements.
  • Participate in and support the school’s special education monitoring, audits, and data reporting processes.
  • Manage complex cases involving mediation, due process hearings, and other legal proceedings in collaboration with the Chief Academic Officer.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Serve as a liaison between families, teachers, school administration, and outside agencies to coordinate student supports.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, services, and programmatic changes.
  • Participate in school-based teams, including the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) team, and administrative meetings.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist Chief Academic Officer in the s upervision of Special Education staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or related field.
  • Valid certification or licensure in Special Education.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in special education, including teaching and/or supervisory roles.
  • Strong knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and state and federal compliance requirements.
  • Proven experience developing, implementing, and monitoring high-quality IEPs.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Experience in staff supervision, professional development, and educator evaluation preferred.
  • Familiarity with Medicaid billing and documentation processes preferred.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and supporting diverse learners.

SCHEDULE:

12-month, full-time position, 40 hours/week, 8 hours/day, Monday through Friday, includes 30-minute lunch break. Occasional work outside of the regular work schedule may be required at times.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

$65,000 - $95,000 per year based on experience and qualifications. Benefits include healthcare, paid vacation, personal days, paid holidays and 403B retirement plan.
